CASE STUDY
Carolina Arbors
55+ Active Adult Community · Lifelong Learning Workshop Series
A pilot workshop series that turned AI hesitation into genuine enthusiasm, filled every seat, and created a waitlist before the last session was over.
THE SITUATION
Adults at Carolina Arbors were curious about artificial intelligence but uncertain where to begin. Like many in their generation, they carried a mix of quiet skepticism, genuine interest, and an unspoken worry: is this something I can actually learn? The community wanted to offer something meaningful, but it needed to be safe, approachable, and grounded in real life, not tech for its own sake.
THE approach
Every session opened the same way: not with a tool demonstration, but with a conversation about AI safety and responsible use. Trust came first. From that foundation, a four-part workshop series was built under the name “AI Made Simple: Everyday Tools for Everyday Life,” with each class anchored to something participants already cared about: staying connected and remembering what matters, managing home and daily routines, exploring travel and entertainment, and navigating health and financial information with more confidence.
Sessions were held in a judgment-free environment where no question was too small and no pace was too slow. Devices were encouraged but never required. Flash cards went home with every participant so learning could continue at their own rhythm. The emphasis throughout was on real-world relevance, not technical depth.
What changed
Demand exceeded every expectation. The series drew 100 registrations and 52 unique participants. Every session was waitlisted before it closed.
Feedback was unanimous. 22 written responses were collected after the series. Not a single negative review. Participants described the sessions as eye-opening, reassuring, and immediately useful in their daily lives.
Skeptics became advocates. By the final session, participants were sharing their own discoveries: using AI for medical research, personal writing, creative projects, and home planning. The learning did not stop at the door.
What this demonstrates
This engagement is a working example of what values-first AI education looks like in practice. It reflects the same principles at the heart of the AI Adoption Navigator™ framework: establish trust before introducing tools, meet people exactly where they are, and let real-world relevance do the teaching.
The results confirm what Bina has observed across every engagement she leads: the primary barrier to AI adoption is not technical. It is emotional. When that barrier is addressed first, learning follows naturally, and enthusiasm is the outcome.
“I never thought I would say this, but I am actually excited about AI now.”
